In this guide you will find information regarding Subject Areas for your journal lists. Subject Areas are optional for libraries to include but can be useful to researchers to help them locate relevant journals to publish Open Access in.
Subject Areas are maintained by each of the libraries with some libraries choosing to use the subjects provided by publishers whilst others maintaining the subjects themselves.
You can include Subject Areas within a import spreadsheet or by manually adding to individual journals within JST.
Step-by-Step
Include within spreadsheet

- First make sure that you have a column within your spreadsheet for subject areas. Making sure of the following:
- Column header is using a supported column name e.g. Subject Areas or Subject. See here for a list of supported column names
- Subject Area column contains Subjects
- You can now import the list as usual either when Creating a new agreement or by Editing an existing agreement

Manually add to a individual journal
In addition to uploading a list with Subject Areas already included you can also manually add Subject Areas to individual journals. This can be done when Adding an Individual Journal or when Editing an Existing journal.
Adding Individual Journals to Agreements
- Go to the Agreements page either from the Dashboard or the sidebar
- Click on the Agreement you would like to change individual journals
- Go to the Uploaded Journals list, under the form and click on Add Journal
- This will now bring up a form where you fill in the following information including Subject Areas. Once you have filled in the form, click Save.
- These will then be added automatically into your public search
Editing Individual Journals
- Go to the Agreements page either from the Dashboard or the sidebar
- Click on the Agreement you would like to change individual journals
- Go to the Uploaded Journals list, under the form.
- Locate the journal you want to edit and click on it.
- This will now bring up a form, here you can edit the Subject Areas as well as other fields
- Once you have made your changes, click Save. These will then be updated automatically into your public search
