This guide provides an overview of how Librarians can search for journals by using the Internal Search. The Internal Search enables Librarians to search for journals within their JST without impacting the Statistics. The Internal Search also displays other information that is not shown to researchers on the Public Search Page e.g. Subject, ISSN (electronic or print).
For a guide on how researchers can search using the public search, please see here.
Note: Search functionality - simple search, advanced search and order of results - is the same but how it is displayed differs.
In this guide you will find:
- Brief description on how to search
- Brief overview of how the search works
- Simple Search
- Filtering
- Advanced Search
Brief description on how to search
You can search on JST by searching for journal title, imprint, ISSN, subject, or keyword. You can also make use of advanced searching e.g. Boolean operators, wildcards, to narrow or widen their search. When conducting a search the results will be sorted by a relevance ranking with exact matches appearing at the top of the search results. To refine your search you can then make use of the filters e.g imprint, who pays.
Brief overview of how the search works
When doing a search it searches for the individual keywords and results are then ranked according to their relevance with exact matches appearing at the top. Journal name matches will be prioritised over other fields. To refine your search you can make use of Filtering and/or Advanced Search functionality. For example, if researchers want to search only for specific terms they can make use of AND e.g. Art AND History.
Step-by-Step
- From your JST Admin page, jst.scifree.se, click on the Internal Search either from the Main Dashboard or from the Side Menu
- You will now arrive on your Internal Search page
Simple Search
- You can then use the Search bar to search for Journals using a simple search (see advanced search for supported advanced searching techniques).
There are a number of ways to search for journals which includes using one (or more) of the following criteria:
- Journal Name
- ISSN
- Imprint
- Keyword - Once you have completed a search you will then be provided with a list of results, organised by relevance ranking. These results will display the following information:
- Journal title - with the link to the journal/publisher page
- Imprint
- Payment Option - this will display the payment option text
- License Option - will display the license option(s) text
- Publishing Model - this will display what the type of journal it is (Open Access/Hybrid)
- ISSN E - if there is an Electronic ISSN within the data this will be displayed
- ISSN P - if there is a Print ISSN within the data this will be displayed
- Subject - If there is a subject within the data this will be displayed - When the results are displayed they will be organised by relevance ranking, with exact matches appearing at the top of the list (journal name prioritised over other fields).
- Within the Internal Search you are able to change how the results are organised by Journal Title, ISSN-E, ISSN-P or Subject. To do this click on one of the headers, in this example we chose Journal. These will then be ordered alphabetically.
If you click again they will then be organised in reverse alphabetical order
Filtering
- To refine search results you can apply filters. This can be done by clicking on the filter icon on the top of the following columns
- Imprint
- Payment Option
- License Option
- Publishing Model - You can then select/deselect options across the different filters (note: if you open another filter the previous filter box will close automatically).
